CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) – Swimmers were advised to stay out of Lake Erie on Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a Beach Hazard Statement that expired before 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10 due to a high risk of rip currents.

“Swimmers should not enter the water. Currents can carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake,” reads the alert. “Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.”

The advisory is in effect for beaches along Lucas, Ottawa, and Erie Counties.
