CLEVELAND (WJW) — Superman filming continues across downtown Cleveland leading to additional star sightings and traffic delays.

On Wednesday Fox 8 got a sneak peek inside Progressive Field sent in by a viewer showing someone flying across right field, while outside the ballpark multiple roads remained closed.

Large cranes, studio lights and cameras were lined up on East 9th Street, which was closed from Prospect to Superior. Chester, Euclid and the Detroit Superior Bridge were also impacted.

The ongoing production is beginning to take a toll on both commuters and some downtown residents.

“It’s ruined my commute for the last three weeks,” said Lynsey Scheneman. “I’m leaving early, avoiding a lot of streets and taking different routes, but that’s OK. It’s interesting to see it going on and it brings in a lot of people.”

The city says the detours and closures are a matter of public safety for both the public and film crew and will continue through July 20 or longer depending on the weather.

This weekend, starting Thursday through Sunday, there’s a westbound closure of Euclid Avenue between East 6th Street and East Roadway.

Friday, West Mall Drive will also be shut down between Rockwell and West Mall.

“I love walking around the city and all the closures seeing how they’ve modified things,” said Melissa Noonan. “I’m glad they’re shooting here.”

That’s a sentiment expressed by several people.

Jarrel Finney admitted the traffic’s been difficult but said he’s glad the ‘Man of Steel’ finally returned to the city where he was created.

“It is about time because we’ve seen many Superman movies not filmed in Cleveland, but now it’s here, yes, and it’s great,” said Finney.
