NFL executive gets it all wrong with his comment on Browns RG Wyatt Teller

The Cleveland Browns have the ability to stand out in the trenches on both sides of the football and that is a major advantage that they have within the structure of their team.

A big piece to that offensive line unit is right guard Wyatt Teller, who remains one of the biggest moves that the Browns have made in recent memory. Cleveland traded for Teller back in 2019 from the Buffalo Bills and he has blossomed into a Pro Bowl player and one of the best guards in the NFL.

ESPN recently polled coaches, executives, and scouts around the NFL and they came to a conclusion that Teller is not a top-10 guard. Teller came in as an honorable mention and the No. 11 player, which is a head-scratcher. Teller is one of the very best run blockers in the NFL and has made three straight Pro Bowls.

Still, one executive’s comment on Teller seems a bit off.

"He's good, powerful, but he's one of those PFF's superheroes that's overvalued a bit," an NFC executive said. "Really talented but streaky," an NFL offensive coach said.

Teller was out there for all 17 games last season and has a strong year. Protecting five different quarterbacks in one season is no easy task, but that is the hand that the offensive line was dealt. Jack Conklin was lost for the season in the first game last year, so the right side took a hit right off the bat. Still, Teller and then rookie Dawand Jones held things down until Jones was lost for the season. Stepping in and playing next to a player like Teller was big for Jones and his first bit of NFL action.

2020 and 2021 were borderline elite seasons for Teller but 2024 was another strong one as well. With a strong, healthy unit together for the 2024 season, the expectation should be for the group to be a top-five unit.

Just like Amari Cooper was, Teller was a steal of a trade for the Brown s that they have to be glad they made a few years back. Despite how the vote went by ESPN, Teller has proven he’s there with the best of the best when it comes to guards in the NFL.
