    I-Team: Cuyahoga County jail inmate dies

    CLEVELAND (WJW) — The FOX 8 I-Team has learned an inmate died Friday inside the Cuyahoga County jail .

    A spokesperson said jail staff responded to a “medical emergency” at about 6:30 p.m. and found a man “unresponsive on his bunk.”

    Medical staff “administered aid,” but the inmate was pronounced dead.

    The county did not immediately release the inmate’s name or why he was being held in the jail.

    The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death. We’re told the case is under investigation.

    Over the years, the Cuyahoga County jail has frequently made headlines for inmate deaths.

    The sheriff’s department also has been taking new steps to stop illegal drugs from getting into the Jail. The I-Team recently reported the sheriff’s department just trained several new dogs to sniff out drugs.
