CLEVELAND — The Guardians and Detroit Tigers begin a stretch Monday night that will feature six games between the two teams in a span of only nine days.
They'll first play a four-game series at Progressive Field before a quick break over the weekend, and they'll then rendezvous in Detroit for a strange two-game series next week.
The Guardians' run of facing filthy starters continues. After facing Dylan Cease and Michael King of the San Diego Padres in back-to-back games , Cleveland's lineup now has to go up against Tarik Skubal, who has quickly evolved into one of the game's elite pitchers.

The Guardians tacked on a somewhat meaningless run in the ninth and fell to the Tigers 8-2 Monday night. Somehow, they had 12 hits and drew two walks but only scored twice.

With the bases loaded against Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, Austin Hedges laid down a bunt — and it worked. Hedges place it perfectly down the third-base line, scoring a run and cutting Detroit's lead to 4-1.
Hedges has laid down some perfect bunts this year in addition to being credited with having a massive impact on the Guardians' clubhouse. He also spoke candidly about his offense , and knowing he needs to find value anywhere he can to extend his career and have a positive impact on a club.
The Tigers are up 4-0 thanks to a comedy of errors in center field.
With a runner on, Tigers catcher Jake Rogers hit a ball into shallow center field. Angel Martinez, playing center field tonight, charged the ball but couldn't get to it in time and allowed it to get behind him. As Martinez ran back to pick it up, he slipped, and he and Jhonkensy Noel bobbled it a bit before throwing it in. The relay throw home was close, but Rogers — who isn't exactly the fastest player alive — beat the throw home in a bang-bang play.
The Guardians challenged it, and during the review a few defenders seemed to believe it'd be overturned, but the call stood. Officially, it goes down as an RBI triple with an error on what should have been a single.
It hasn't been a pretty season for Carlos Carrasco, and it definitely wasn't a pretty start to his outing Monday night against the Tigers.
