I-Team: Spouses among local leaders ready for Democratic Convention

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Fox 8 I-Team has found that a husband and wife team of local lawmakers will be going to the Democratic National Convention in August.

Now, that meeting could be tense after the President announced he will not seek re-election.

The Conwells are now preparing for a convention like no other.

Councilman Kevin Conwell told the I-Team that he’s going to the Democratic National Convention to attend and be in the crowd. But, he said his wife will serve as a delegate.

Kevin Conwell explained that he’s supporting Vice President Kamala Harris for President. He said he and his wife work together and he’s hoping everyone at the Convention will be united.

“Yvonne and I, we always work together. We sit down and we talk to discuss issues and concerns that affect the City, as well as the County,” Conwell said. “The scary thing is the Democrats don’t want an open convention. When you have an open convention, you have to plan before you get there. If it’s open, you’re going on with anywhere and everywhere, so we can’t manage it.”

We’ve learned other local delegates will include Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb and Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne.
