(WJW) — Vice President Kamala Harris is finding support in Ohio.

A group of pastors and clergy leaders spoke out Tuesday, throwing their support behind her.

The United Pastors in Mission held a press conference at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, calling for community members to exercise their right to vote in the November election. They announced their support for Harris, making the case that she should become the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate.

They also denounced any racism or sexism related to Harris’ candidacy, asking both candidates and voters to rise above negativity and “show us their best.”

This came as the United Pastors in Mission were in the middle of their “Souls to the Polls” initiative. The organization is reaching out to local churches and their clergies, encouraging everyone to vote in November.

“Even though the top of the ticket has changed, our plan has not changed,” said Pastor Aaron Phillips, executive director of the Cleveland Clergy Coalition. “We are still engaging 100 churches to get 100 people to sign up to vote by mail.”

In addition to offering prayers for President Joe Biden and Harris, the pastors also asked the public to pray for former President Donald Trump as he recovers from an attempted assassination in Pennsylvania.

Their overall mission? Speaking directly to those with wavering political faith, encouraging all to exercise their right to vote.
