WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — Training camp has officially gotten underway for the Cleveland Browns .

The Browns got on a charter plane Thursday morning and flew to southeastern West Virginia, where they're encamping at The Greenbrier for the next nine days. Over that time, they'll hold seven camp practices , including one this afternoon at 2:45 p.m.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski, as well as select players, are scheduled to speak after the short practice. As they get underway at The Greenbrier, follow along here for updates.

Kevin Stefanski has no timeline on Nick Chubb's return to the field

The status of running back Nick Chubb's comeback remains up in the air. Chubb, who had two surgeries last fall after his Week 2 knee injury, was present at The Greenbrier but watched most of the offensive drills from behind the play.

Chubb did work off to the side with a trainer at the beginning of practice. Head coach Kevin Stefanski, though, didn't want to put a timeline on when Chubb might after be removed from the physically unable to perform list and start practicing.

"I think with all of our guys it's so important just to let them continue to work through," Stefanski said. "There's no date in mind for any of our players. They're all on different injuries, different timelines if you will, but I know this, those guys, all of them will continue to work and work hard."

Stefanski was asked about the video from July 15 on social media which showed Chubb twice squatting was appeared to be 540 pounds. The head coach acknowledged he saw the post.

"Yeah, I told Nick I don't post any of my videos online, but he can feels free to post all his," Stefanski said.

Kevin Stefanski looking to be 'smart' with Deshaun Watson's throwing

Quarterback Deshaun Watson was on an every-other-day schedule to throw while in both OTAs and minicamp. Head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked if that was going to remain the case for Watson in training camp as he continues to recover from November shoulder surgery.

"It'll be a little more than that," Stefanski said. "We'll be smart. We're very fortunate to have a great medical team around Deshaun, so we'll continue to make good decisions. He looks great, feels great. So we'll just be smart about it."

Back during minicamp, Watson took a step forward in what he was able to do by adding 7 on 7 drills to the individual work he was already do. Stefanski did say the quarterback will be part of 11 on 11 drills in camp, and did some work with the full offense on Thursday.

What Stefanski remains non-committal about is his plans for Watson during the three preseason games. A year ago, albeit fully healthy and with the Browns playing four preseason games, he started both the second and fourth games.

"We'll see," Stefanski said. "I mean that's certainly something that I will talk to our staff about, talk to Deshaun about that. We'll make that decision when appropriate. I thought about it, but I don't have an answer right now."

Jerome Ford misses opening practice for 'personal reasons'

The only player not on the field who wasn't on either the non-football injury or physically unable to perform list was running back Jerome Ford. Ford, though, was an excused absence according to head coach Kevin Stefanski.

Stefanski said he expected Ford to be back for Friday's practice.

Greg Newsome II, Dalvin Tomlinson undergo surgeries, timetable for return uncertain

Head coach Kevin Stefanski announced after Thursday's practice that cornerback Greg Newsome II had surgery on the hamstring injury which landed him on non-football injury list. Defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson, meanwhile, is scheduled for arthroscopic surgery on his knee on Friday.

Stefanski said the hope is that Newsome would be back in time for the regular-season opener Sept. 8 against the Dallas Cowboys. He was a little more vague on Tomlinson's timeline, saying "Same idea. We'll update you guys as we get more information on those injuries and those are all like we've always talked about injuries. We'll continue to just work through it."

Myles Garrett, Jerry Jeudy back on field for install periods

Defensive end Myles Garrett and wide receiver Jerry Jeudy both started back working off to the side with the trainer. Both, however, would return to the field for install periods.

Garrett, despite not having a helmet, worked in at defensive end while walking through different defensive looks against a dummy offensive line on one field. Jeudy, meanwhile, ran routes during the offense's install period against air on an adjacent field.

Myles Garrett, David Njoku among Cleveland Browns players not practicing

The Browns had several players who were not listed on either the PUP or NFI list working to the side with a trainer. That group included:

    • Defensive end Myles Garrett
    • Tight end David Njoku
    • Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy
    • Cornerback Cameron Mitchell

All of those players dealt with nagging injuries at the end of June's minicamp and were simply held out for precautionary reasons on the first day. Running back Jerome Ford was also not on the field for the early portion of practice, but no reason was immediately given.

Cleveland Browns PUP, non-football injury lists feature Nick Chubb, Greg Newsome II

The Browns announced on Wednesday what players were starting camp on either the active/physically unable to perform or non-football injury lists. Those lists include some expected names, as well as a couple of surprising ones.

All players on either list are eligible to return at any point once they pass a physical.

    On the PUP list were:

    • Nick Chubb, running back (knee)
    • Dalvin Tomlinson, defensive tackle (knee)
    • Jedrick Wills Jr., offensive tackle (knee)
    • Jack Conklin, offensive tackle (knee)
    • D'Anthony Bell, safety (shin)

On the non-football injury list were:

    • Greg Newsome II, cornerback (hamstring)
    • Nyheim Hines, running back (knee)
