Mike Vrabel’s role with Browns revealed and detailed

Mike Vrabel is a player's coach.  He had tremendous success as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans with a 56-48 record (including five postseason games) and was the 2021 NFL Coach of the Year.  When he found himself out of a job after being fired by the Titans and coming up short in the head coach interview processes for the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and Los Angeles Chargers, Browns GM Andrew Berry and Coach Kevin Stefanski asked him to come on board as a consultant.

His role does not involve gameday responsibilities; however, Vrabel is doing hands-on hard work on the field and at training camp practices most notably with the tight ends , teaching blocking techniques. Vrabel has a wealth of football knowledge having spent eight of his 14 NFL seasons as a player with the New England Patriots which resulted in plenty of face time with Bill Belichick and three Super Bowl championships.

Vrabel also has assisted the Browns staff with special teams strategy under the new kickoff rules. Vrabel is doing whatever he can to make the Browns players better and more skilled when Week 1 rolls around.  That might include keeping things fun with daily races with backup quarterback Jameis Winston .

Berry and Stefanski are keenly aware that Vrabel's work is a gift that likely comes with an expiration date.  Vrabel could be among the first in line for head coaching vacancies in the 2025 season, but in the meantime, this consultant role suits him and the Browns well.
