Cavaliers sign Jarrett Allen to $91 million max extension

The Cleveland Cavaliers and center Jarrett Allen are in agreement on a max extension, per reports . The extension is worth $91 million and three years, bringing Allen’s guaranteed total to $131 million for the next five seasons.

Jarrett Allen, age 26, was originally drafted 22nd overall by the Brooklyn Nets in 2017. He spent three and half seasons there until being traded to Cleveland as part of a multi-team deal in 2021. He has remained with Cleveland since and will be entering his fifth season as part of the team.

Since joining the Cavaliers, Allen has steadily progressed into a focal point of the squad. He earned his lone career All-Star selection with the squad during the 2021-2022 season, in which he averaged 16.1 points and 10.8 rebounds. Allen has been dependable and durable for the Cavs. He has started every game he’s played in for the last three seasons, including a career high 77 games last season. Allen recorded a career high 42 double-doubles last season, the most by a Cavaliers player since LeBron James put up 52 in 2017-2018.

If it wasn’t clear before, the Cleveland Cavaliers are absolutely committed to once again becoming a force in the Eastern Conference. They signed stars Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley to max extensions worth up to a total of $419.2 million. They also picked up former Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson as their new head coach, described as a “good hire” due to Atkinson’s relationships with Cavalier players and overall experience. After a disappointing early round exit from this year’s playoffs, the Cavaliers look poised to become contenders once again.
