Cleveland Browns star airlifted to hospital after frightening injury at training camp

Cleveland Browns running bac k D'Onta Foreman was airlifted out of the team's practice on Wednesday after receiving a "direct blow to the head that resulted in back pain," according to the team.

Foreman was rushed off the field via stretcher and immediately transferred to the local Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital near the Browns training facility. Fortunately, reports a few hours later confirmed that Foreman's X-rays and CT Scans came back negative and the player was to be released from the hospital.

"The Browns athletic training staff deployed their standard emergency action procedures to immobilize Foreman," the team said in a statement. " Foreman had movement in all his extremities."

The injury to Foreman happened during a punt drill at the Browns training camp in White Sulpher Springs, Virginia. The Browns just started practicing in full pads.

Browns players could be seen kneeling and praying in a show of unity for the fallen Foreman shortly after the injury occurred.

Losing Foreman for any serious period would certainly cause problems to the team's running back room. The veteran running back inked a one-year, $1.29 million with the Browns this offseason.

Originally a third-round pick by the Houston Texans back in 2017, the 28-year-old Foreman didn't get a shot at regular carries until he was a Carolina Panther in 2022. Following the team's trade of incumbent starter Christian McCaffrey to the 49ers midway through the year, Foreman responded with five 100+ yard rushing games.

An injury to Foreman also comes as the Browns anxiously await the return of star running back Nick Chubb , who missed almost the entire 2023 NFL season with a knee injury.

ESPN indicated that the star is not likely to be ready for the start of the 2024 NFL Season. Chubb , a four-time Pro Bowler, turns 29 in December.

Without Chubb for most of the season, the Browns managed to win 11 games thanks to a dominant defense led by Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

If Foreman and Chubb can't play, Jerome Ford and Nyheim Hines would figure to rise to the top of the Cleveland RB depth chart. Ford rushed for 813 yards and four touchdowns in Chubb's absence last season.

As of now, the injury to Foreman doesn't seem to be too serious. If it is, look for Cleveland to add further cover at the running back position.
