The WWE Tag Team Champions made an unannounced appearance at Absolute Intense Wrestling’s Against The World event in Cleveland, Ohio, two days before SummerSlam.
Gargano is a former AIW Absolute Champion, so his return to the company was a homecoming of sorts. He brought his tag team partner Ciampa with him to the show. The duo’s appearance made the rounds on social media, as various fans posted footage .
While it was a complete surprise to the fans in attendance, Johnny Gargano teased something big in Cleveland that night.
He tweeted before the show, asking if anybody knew of “anything cool happening in Cleveland on Thursday.
Gargano also tweeted after the show. He thanked all the people in Cleveland who helped him get to where he is today. The WWE Tag Team Champion thanked AIW for letting them appear, and noted that he wanted to start a historic Summerslam weekend back to where it started for him.
Surprise! “I wouldn’t be where I am today without the places I’ve been and the people who have supported me from the ground up. I had to start Summerslam weekend in Cleveland off by going back where it all started.. Thanks for having us, @aiwrestling.”
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa are set to defend their titles against The Bloodline on the August 2 episode of WWE SmackDown.
