Cleveland Zoo’s baby Jameela is now on the move

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Baby Jameela is now on the move!

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo ’s youngest gorilla, Jameela, has officially started crawling, the zoo announced Saturday on social media .

According to Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Animal Curator Dr. Elena Less , everything is “going great” with gorilla baby Jameela and her mom, Fredricka.

“If you come to the zoo you will see that baby Jameela is now crawling! She’s moving around. She’s coming off of Fredricka. She actually will come up to us on her own to get her mid-day bottle,” Less said. “She’s also starting to climb the mesh of the exhibit.”

Less also said that Jameela is starting to play with her siblings, especially her big brother, Kayembe.

“Sometimes mom Fredricka will put (Jameela) down and it’s really sweet because you will see Kayembe sitting with her and kind of babysitting her, so to speak, in that big brother role,” Less said.

According to Less, Fredricka has a relaxed mothering style and lets Jameela explore.

“So that’s what we’re really going to see over the next month. she’ll be crawling even further away from her mom, climbing even higher and just interacting with both of the other youngsters in the group,” Less said.
