Severe weather left nearly 400,000 homes and businesses in northeast Ohio without power Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland issued a series of severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings about 5 p.m. local time Tuesday, including a tornado warning for the area of Masury, Brookfield and Yankee Lake that was in effect until 5:30 p.m. Earlier on Tuesday, the storm system prompted tornado warnings in areas around Cleveland, including Parma, Euclid and Shaker Heights.

The weather service issued a warning for the area about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday to alert residents in northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania to the threat that rapidly intensifying storms could bring, including damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes.

USA TODAY's Power Outage Tracker at about 5:30 p.m. showed the outages clustered in three northeast Ohio counties on Tuesday:
