The decision-makers of the Cleveland Browns clearly have a way they are leaning when it comes to what the team is going to do following the 2028 season when the lease is up.

Just days after the city of Cleveland sent its proposal to the Browns on the current stadium renovation plan, the Browns have released what a new domed stadium in Brook Park, Ohio would look like . The Browns obtained a large chunk of land in the Cleveland suburb that could hold the new stadium and the surrounding development plans.

“We do not take the stadium decision lightly and have been working diligently with city, county, and state officials to consider all opportunities. We need to be bold, we need to be innovative, and we need to take advantage of this unique moment to create a transformational project not only for our fans but for Cleveland, the Northeast Ohio region, and the State of Ohio.” - Dave Jenkins, Haslams Sports Group

The cost of the new stadium would be approximately $2.4 billion and the Browns revealed they would be covering $1.2 billion in the proposal, plus any overrun. Next, the Browns would be asking for public funding of $1.2 billion to match. Continued plans from the Haslam Sports Group would privately fund $1 billion for development around the stadium.

“The other and more transformational option is to build a $2.4 billion new domed stadium in Brook Park, creating a modern, dynamic, world-class venue that would greatly enhance the fan experience and enable the State of Ohio and our region to compete for some of the biggest events in the world 365 days a year. Similar to other markets in the Midwest, this proposed domed stadium would catalyze our region in a major way. The stadium's year-round activity would anchor a large-scale lifestyle and entertainment district, including experiential retail, residential space, hotels, and other unique products, drawing visitors throughout the year and driving substantial fiscal impact for our region.”

Playing nine or 10 home games a season doesn’t make sense to have as big of an investment as this. The stadium would hold concerts, other sporting events, and pretty much anything else you could think of. The plan for it appears to be something we don’t really have in the Midwest.

With the detailed plan and the wording, it is not hard to read into this as the way that the Haslam family is leaning toward a whole new stadium . There are still plenty of things to work through, but it is obvious what the owners and many fans want.
