Cleveland, TN – According to the police officials, the program welcomed 24 young participants who received an in-depth and up-close look at the daily operations of the police force.

Throughout the week, the kids had the opportunity to interact with various specialized units, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, the K9 unit, SWAT, and the Crisis unit.

These interactions provided them with a unique perspective on the diverse roles and responsibilities within the department.

One of the highlights of the academy was working with Crime Scene Technicians to process a mock crime scene and collect evidence.

Additionally, the participants learned the basics of traffic stops, vehicle searches, and arrest procedures, giving them a comprehensive overview of police work.

The Youth Police Academy is a beloved annual event for the Cleveland Police Department. The department is looking forward to welcoming Class 18 in July after a short break.

This program wouldn’t be possible without the support of numerous organizations and individuals.

Special thanks are extended to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, ATS The Bridge, Tres Hermanos Cleveland, and Farmhouse Restaurant for their contributions this week.

The Cleveland Police Department values the opportunity to engage with young community members and provide them with insights into law enforcement, fostering a deeper understanding and respect for the profession.
