Swineford waives hearing; invasion of privacy case proceeds to common pleas court
The East Stroudsburg Area School District math teacher accused of recording his fiancée's daughters in his bathroom has waived his preliminary hearing. John Swineford, 43, of East Stroudsburg, was listed online as a math teacher at East Stroudsburg High School South before the page went under redesign. The school district did not respond to inquiries about his current employment status.
One person faces attempted homicide charges in a Tioga County, Pa. shooting
Pennsylvania State Police have charged a 69-year-old man with attempted homicide in a shooting that injured one person in Tioga County Thursday. Mansfield-based troopers were dispatched at about 4:30 p.m. to 1868 E. Lawrence Road, Jackson Township, where state police said a 45-year-old male sustained at least one gunshot wound.

Push to Ban Smoking in Pa., Casinos Underway in Harrisburg
A push to ban smoking inside Pennsylvania casinos is underway in Harrisburg. Democrat State Representative Dan Frankel joined some Pittsburgh casino workers for a rally on the North Shore yesterday as they advocate in favor of an amendment to the state’s Clean Indoor Air Act to end tobacco use at their jobs. Frankel is a co-sponsor of the amendment, saying it is meant to close loopholes in the 2008 law. Rivers Casino currently has designated smoking and non-smoking sections on the gaming floor, while restaurants and some other areas are smoke-free.
