The pseudo-holiday is traditionally celebrated on the third Wednesday in July, a fitting time for a food that has become synonymous with summer. To many Americans, nothing is better than enjoying the warm weather with a hot dog or two — or 76, like Joey Chestnut ate in 10 minutes to set the world record during the 2021 Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.

On Wednesday, residents can visit one of several locations in the area marking National Hot Dog Day with deals that will fill you up while saving you money.
Nathan's Famous National Hot Dog Day deal
The chain turned back time to 1916, the year it was founded, by offering hot dogs at the original price of five cents Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each customer was limited to two dogs in the deal.
The nickel offer was valid at eight participating New Jersey locations, including Rockaway, Bridgewater, Jackson and Howell.
Shake Shack free hot dog deal
The national chain known for its burgers and shakes is offering customers a complimentary hot dog with any purchase by using the code "FREEHOTDOG" at checkout.
The offer is valid at kiosks in each restaurant or for delivery or pickup via the Shake Shack mobile app. Customers are limited to one free dog each, and their order must include one additional food or beverage item.
Shake Shack has North Jersey locations in Livingston, Paramus, Parsippany and Wayne.
The Hot Grill
The Clifton eatery, which made the Final Four of the NorthJersey.com March Madness Hot Dog bracket this year, is holding a buy one, get one free promotion Wednesday to celebrate the holiday. The offer is valid for in-house and to-go orders only and does not apply to online orders.
The Hot Grill is located at 669 Lexington Ave. in Clifton and is open from 9 a.m. to midnight Wednesday.
Boulevard Dogs-N-More
The fast food restaurant located at 206 Boulevard in Hasbrouck Heights is also offering a buy one, get one free deal for hot dogs, according to its Instagram page . Boulevard Dogs-N-More is open from noon to 6 p.m.
The Lantern
The Lantern in the Haskell section of Wanaque is offering $2 hot dogs from 12 to 9 p.m.
