Alabama High Schooler Dies After Collapsing At Football Practice
A community in Alabama is grieving the unexpected death of a high school student. Semaj Wilkins was attending football practice at New Brockton High School when he suddenly collapsed. On Aug. 13, Wilkins was participating in warmups when he suffered a medical emergency around 4:30 P.M. After being given CPR on the field, emergency responders transported him to a nearby medical center. The 14-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after. Public pressure in Guntersville shuts down proposed Dollar General
GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - The public has persuaded city leaders in Guntersville to not build a new Dollar General in the area. Alabama to require fentanyl education for middle, high schoolers
Students in grades 6-12 in Alabama will receive mandatory instruction on the dangers of fentanyl starting this school year. The Alabama Legislature passed HB 280 in April. It states: “Commencing with the 2024-2025 school year, each local education agency shall annually provide research-based instruction related to fentanyl prevention and drug poisoning awareness to students in grades six through 12 in a manner comparable to instruction provided for other drug and alcohol education and prevention programs.”
