Marshall County proclaimed July 9, 2024, as Kavares Tears Day – a day that recognized Tears as an exceptional baseball player. Tears played a major part in the University of Tennessee’s baseball team winning the 2024 Men’s College World Series. As Tears neared the Lewisburg Square, the huge crowd clapped and cheered as the instrumental version of “Rocky Top” played. Memphis man sentenced to 210 years in prison for armed business robberies
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Memphis man was sentenced to 210 years in prison for a string of business robberies, according to the United States Department of Justice (DOJ). The DOJ said 43-year-old Marchello Moore escaped from a halfway house and went on a robbery spree in March 2022. In February 2024, he was convicted of eight counts of robbery, eight counts of the use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and one count of attempted robbery. He previously pled guilty to escaping from federal custody from the halfway house where he had been serving a federal sentence for business and bank robberies committed in 2014.

On Wednesday, the Economic Development Growth Engine for Memphis and Shelby County (EDGE) approved a 10-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) for Reconext Tennessee LLC.
