Norwegian rosemaling is a traditional Norwegian folk art. The evolution of Rosemaling began with the intricate woodcarvings from the Norse Vikings.

Professional painters in the early 1700s in the urban areas of Norway initiated development of their own style from Baroque, Rococo, and other elements of design popular at the time. Each valley and district in Norway gradually became known for its individual distinctive style, with elements of each linking the provinces together.

Peg Piltingsrud, nationally known Rosemaling instructor, will return to the Bosque Arts Center in March providing a three-day workshop for both beginner and intermediate painters. Beginners will start with the basics while intermediates will have a review of the basics and then move onward by developing style, stroke work, and patterns.

While Piltingsrud recognizes the need to allow some concessions to the classic techniques of Rosemaling, she is a traditionalist as it applies to style and paint. In keeping with old world traditions, only oil paints are used in her work. She tries fresh color schemes for her clients and students.

While living in Norway, her inspiration came from the wellpreserved churches, farmhouses, museums, and other buildings. During her workshop she believes the beginning students should be exposed to the classic style.

The workshop, set for the 20, 21, and 22 of March will be available to a limited size class and supplies will be provided for the cost of the workshop.
