    Tyler’s ‘A Golden Outlook’ painting wins ‘Best in Show’

    The Bosque Arts Center’s 21st Annual High School Art Show attracted 115 entries from student-artists across six area school districts.

    BAC board member John Linn said that the number of entries was up by 45 from last year’s show.

    “We filled up all the wall space to capacity, and that was very exciting for us putting it together,” he said during the awards ceremony on Saturday, March 2.

    The overall winner of the 2024 show was Rebekah Tyler, a home school student in 11th grade, for her oil / acrylic painting entitled “A Golden Outlook.”

    Entered into the contest were 35 pieces from McGregor ISD, 31 from Clifton ISD; 26, Hico ISD; and the rest from Cranfills Gap ISD, Whitney ISD, and the area home school group.

    The breakdown of art in categories included 49 pieces in drawing; 27 in oil/acrylic; 20 in mixed media; 17 in watercolor; and 2 pastels.

    Watercolors

    • First place – Savoring the Sweet Moments by Kayden Peterson, 9th grade, home school.

    • Second place – Shells by Skylar Montgomery, 9th grade, McGregor.

    • Third place – Delicious and Refreshing by Kayden Peterson, 9th grade, home school.

    • Honorable mention – Melting Shoe by Juan Flores, 9th grade, Clifton.

    Drawing

    • First place – Lil Bambi by Matthew Crosley, 10th grade, McGregor.

    • Second place – Endangered Beauty by Llareli Martinez, 10th grade, McGregor.

    • Third place – Nanny by Emma Thompson, 10th grade, Hamilton.

    • Honorable mention – Obliteration of Evil by Sayde Colmenero, 9th grade, Whitney.

    Mixed media

    • First place – Drips by David Solis, 10th grade, Clifton.

    • Second place – Skull Sunrise by Cheyenne Anderson, 10th grade, McGregor.

    • Third place – The Trickster by Cydnee Walker, 10th grade, McGregor.

    Oil / Acrylic

    • First place – Unwrapping Happiness by Kayden Peterson, 9th grade, home school.

    • Second place – Still Winter Evening by Rebekah Tyler, 11th grade, home school.

    • Third place – The Best Sunset, Carolina Waters, 10th grade, McGregor.

    Awards are $500 for “Best in Show,” and $100, $75, and $50 for first through third places in each media category.

    This year’s judge was Anne Patton, a local, professional artist who is a member of the Society of Watercolor Artists. She has participated in and has been an award winner in the Bosque Arts Center’s Art Classic.

    The student art show will remain open for public viewing at the BAC’s second floor gallery until Friday, March 15.

    Organized through the BAC’s Art Council, the student art show’s window to submit entries opened in late February 2024.

    The BAC is located at 215 College Hill Drive in Clifton. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
