You have the power to be happy and love your family – even when they’re tempted to become pirates seeking immortality.

That was one of the messages in the new Fairytales on Ice production of “The Adventures of Peter Pan and Wendy” at the Bosque Arts Center on Sunday afternoon, February 25.

The Tin Building Theatre was once again packed with families for the hourand- a-half show. While last year’s production of “Beauty and Beast” played for two shows, the cast and crew squeezed more wonder and magic into one marvelous show this year.

The performers demonstrated not only their prowess for ice dancing but also juggling, acrobatics, and swordsmanship, and the crowd of families responded with applause and cheers for the athleticism.

The show began with a gaggle of fairytale characters trying to decide which story to tell the audience that afternoon.

Many children and adults in the audience arrived to the show in costumes resembling these characters, by the way.

The motley – consisting of a charming prince, a redheaded mermaid, a longnosed marionette, a green-hooded archer, and a long-haired fair maiden – decided on Peter Pan since he was absent.

The plot of the story revolved around Wendy and her kid brother John. Wendy yearns to leave her boring hometown New York City and away from the adult responsibilities of caring for John.

Peter Pan, his sidekick Tinker Bell, and Peter’s Shadow find themselves in the Big Apple after escaping from their nemesis a one-handed pirate named Captain Hook who is bound to steal the secret to their immortality.

After a madcap meeting, Peter and his mates whisked Wendy and John back to their home territory – Neverland – where they never have to grow up to be adults and die.

To travel to this magical land, Peter and Tink taught Wendy and the audience how to fly – a little pixie dust and happy thoughts go a long way.

After an intermission, the second act showed how Peter, Wendy, and the Lost Kids (Peter’s immortal pals) rescued the beloved John from the trappings of Captain Hook.

Spoiler Alert: A crocodile is involved. Throughout the show, audience participation was encouraged using special glowing fans, making the afternoon much more fun and joyful.

The Clifton show was the third of the 2024 season for Fairytales produced by Ice Creative Entertainment (ICE).

Since ICE’s founding in 2011 by Olympic level choreographer Alex Wilfand, the troup has partnered with the Walt Disney Company, Dubai Parks & Resorts, Alessia Cara, Tokyo Disneyland, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Marriott Hotels, Dolly Parton Entertainment, and more.

ICE’s performances embrace theatrics plus professional feats with worldchampion athletes, television producers, broadway singers, and televised choreographers.

Installed within an hour the day of the show, the entire production utilizes synthetic ice on top of special panels on top of the stage.
