Clifton police officers arrested 12 persons during February 2024, according to a recent report from Clifton Police Chief Chris Blanton.

There were 341 total calls for service during the reporting period.

The Clifton Police Department’s monthly report was presented to the Clifton City Council during its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

During February 2024, the department reported 223 traffic stops, 23 vehicle searches, 224 warnings, and 119 citations.

According to the code enforcement report, seven permits were issued; five violations to city ordinances were recorded; and 15 inspections were performed.

February’s animal control report showed that two calls were made.

The department conducted three escorts for Clifton ISD’s activities (one for Lady Cub basketball and two for Cubs basketball), the report said.

Chief Blanton reported that he attended a meeting at the Bosque County Sheriff’s Office with the county sheriff and school officials on February 7.

On February 9, the department started a public auction for gym equipment; the auction ended on February 29, the report said.

On February 12, a training was held at the Clifton Municipal Airport, the report said.

The police chief attended two meetings in preparation for the total solar eclipse (February 13, 20), the report said.

On February 13, the department’s emergency siren was tested; and on February 15, the department held a staff meeting, the report said.

Chief Blanton’s report reiterated that the department was preparing for the total solar eclipse from a public safety standpoint.

“We are not sure what to expect, but are trying to cover our bases as best we can,” he said. “All of our officers will be working the Monday of the event, as well as throughout the weekend.”

The chief reminded the city council that Clifton ISD will not hold classes on the day of the eclipse on Monday, April 8.

“We will be bringing in some extra officers to work with officers on the day of to help with potential problems or crowd control issues,” he said.
