The Texas Department of Transportation continues to repair Highway 6 between Clifton and Valley Mills after record-setting floods overtook roadways and bridges earlier this month.

The Bosque County Office of Emergency Management said on social media that TxDOT is “working on the road as fast as possible. Could it be open by the end of this week? Possibly, but a rainy forecast on Wednesday/ Thursday could delay.”

According to DriveTexas.org, Highway 6 remains closed but might re-open by Friday, May 24.

In the meantime, travelers can take the detour through Farm-to-Market 854 and Farm-to-Market 217.

The Kimball Bend Bridge is also closed due to high water levels across the gateway from Bosque and Hill counites on Highway 174.

According to DriveTexas.org, the bridge might re-open on Friday, May 31. In the meantime, drivers should use an alternate route.

“The good news is that Lake Whitney has stopped rising and has even receded a bit,” the BCOEM said on social media. “The bad news is it will take quite a while for the water level to recede enough to clear debris and do a safety inspection. This one will be closed for a while longer.”

On Tuesday, May 7, Bosque County’s road crews completed repairs to County Road 4150 in Norse, making the roadway passable now.

“The base material will continue to settle and compact over the next few days, so drivers will notice it to be rough to drive on. Approach the repaired location slowly and drive slowly across it,” the Bosque County Sheriff’s Office said on social media. “The road crew will return to add more base material and smooth it out in days ahead.”
