The Clifton Education Foundation (CEF) awarded $65,000 of scholarships to graduating seniors of Clifton High School during this year’s Senior Banquet. The Bill and Helen Hubler Scholarship was new this year. This $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Raegan Thomas.

Helen Hubler, LPC (retired), is a longtime resident of Clifton. She was born in Waco and was a WHS graduate. She is a Baylor University grad, with a master’s degree in social work from the Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Her work careers were as a health education director and a psychiatric social worker. As a side note, she was also a synchronized swimmer with the Waco Splash Club, putting on water shows for the opening of pools all over Central Texas.

Helen was married to Winthrope R. (Bill) Hubler, Sr., M.D., a dermatologist, from 1974 until his death in 1993. Dr. Bill served as a Lt. Commander in the Navy during the Korean War, and played a big part in eliminating Thalidomide from the market.

Helen moved to Clifton in 1993 and operated The River’s Bend B&B for 14 years. Her current enterprise, and lifelong passion, is the Doggie Drop Inn – a place dogs love to visit and where they are well taken care of! Helen’s life has been devoted to involvement with all areas of animal care.

Helen has received the Chamber’s Community Service Award (2005), BARK’s Years of Loyal Support Award (2020), and BSN’s Volunteer of the Year Award (2022). In 2020, the Mayor of Clifton proclaimed June 28 as Helen Hubler Day!
