The Clifton Food Bank has released its statistics for the first fiscal quarter of 2024, revealing a decrease in average patronage compared to the previous year.

On average, 77 families were served monthly, with the highest number reaching 84 families in February. Additionally, an average of 214 individuals benefited from the food bank’s services each month.

Despite the decrease in patronage, the Clifton Food Bank remains committed to supporting the community with new initiatives and reminders for volunteers, Kathy Meissner, Clifton Food Bank coordinator, said.

    New kits

Starting May 1, the food bank began distributing adult hygiene kits with every food order.

These kits, generously donated by Neighborhood Clifton volunteers, include essential items, such as shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and razors. Each family will receive one kit per order.

Additionally, cleaning buckets containing dish and laundry soap, cleaning supplies, and a bucket are now being distributed to each family.

Youth hygiene kits, also donated by the community, will be distributed with the summer meals program beginning in July.

    Summer meals program launch

Starting July 1, the Clifton Food Bank will launch its summer meals program for eligible students in the Clifton Independent School District (CISD).

Weekly distributions will occur on Monday evenings until the start of the school year in August.

Families with children in CISD are encouraged to complete summer meal applications, available at the food bank’s desk.

    Volunteer reminders

The report also provided volunteers with tips and reminders to assist in maintaining the food bank facility.

The food bank staff said they appreciated all suggestions for process improvements and expresses gratitude for the volunteers' dedication to demonstrating compassion and support for the community.

“Thank you so much for all you do to show God's love to the people of our community,” Meissner stated in her report.
