The Clifton Police Department arrested eight people during May 2024, according to a recent report from Clifton Police Chief Chris Blanton.

There were 421 total calls for service during the reporting period.

The Clifton Police Department's monthly report was presented to the Clifton City Council during its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 12, 2024.

During May 2024, the department reported 159 traffic stops, 14 vehicle searches, 167 warnings, and 83 citations.

According to the code enforcement report, 11 permits were issued; seven city ordinance violations were recorded; 10 inspections were performed. Seven calls were reported as “other.”

May's animal control report showed six calls were made.

    Flood report

In his report to the Clifton City Council, Chief Blanton recounted the flooding on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

The chief reported no major damage to buildings and no loss of life during the flooding event; however, residents of Avenue A were evacuated, he said.

“I want to commend all of my officers for working extra during this unexpected event,” Chief Blanton said.

He continued, “I also want to say a huge thank you to our public works department. They came out and put in a ton of hours as well. They worked hard to make sure the sewer and water plant stayed operational and that roads stayed blocked. They also worked well together with the PD to ensure that everything went smooth during the closures.”

    Personnel matters

The chief reported that Officer Alicia Wallum resigned from the Clifton Police Department, effective May 28. She was offered a post by the Meridian Police Department as an SRO at Meridian High School.

Chief Blanton noted that Wallum paid the City of Clifton back all the costs associated with her police academy training. She had been a certified police officer for six months in Clifton.

“We wish Wallum the best,” the chief said.

The Clifton Police Department currently has two openings, the chief’s report said.
