    The Nellie Pederson Civic Library reported a gate count of 1,720 persons in its monthly report for May 2024.

    The report was submitted by Library Director Lewis Stansell at the regular Clifton City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 11.

    For the fiscal year to date, the total gate count total at the library is 3,700 people, the report said.

    Stansell reported that the library hosted the ladies book club on Wednesday, May 1; four people were in attendance.

    Also, on May 1, the library presented a new yearbook for the Clifton Civic Improvement Society, the report said. The staff had edited, printed and assembled the yearbook for the society.

    The library's staff presented the Nellie Pederson Civic Library Scholarships at the Clifton Senior Banquet on Tuesday, May 14, the report said.

    The report stated that the amount of money patrons saved in May was $9,930; for the fiscal year to date, the amount of money patrons saved was $51,454.

    In May the total circulation of library materials was 1,156; for the fiscal year to date, the total circulation count is 6,445, the report said.

    In May, the number of reference transactions was 25; for computer use, 49; new patrons, eight, the report said.

    Library events

    On Thursday, May 30, the library hosted Pat and Rosemary Richardson for their monthly Medicare workshop, from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Four people were in attendance, according to the report.

    The Zentangle art club returned to the library for its bimonthly meeting on Tuesday, May 14 and 28. Fifteen people were in attendance, according to the report.

    The library was closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Normal operating hours resumed the next business day.

    About the library

    Founded by the Clifton Civic Improvement Society in 1952, the members renamed their project for Nellie Partlow Pederson, longtime treasurer of the organization and muchloved member of the community.

    The library was first housed in the basement of the old Clifton City Hall The library is currently managed by the City of Clifton.

    Additional input is provided by a Library Advisory Board, whose members include representatives of the City, the Society, and local residents.

    In the early 2000s, the library moved to its current location from the Clifton Civic Center thanks to a fundraising campaign spearheaded by the Society with financial support from the Clifton Economic Development Corporation.

    The library is located at 406 Live Oak Street in Clifton.

    The library’s hours of operation are Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; the library is closed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
