The City of Clifton voted Tuesday to create an R-4 District entice development and bring more affordable housing to the city.

Located between 5th Street and 17th Street, and bound on the east by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway and on the west by Ave. F, the district allows for smaller lot sizes, which would increase the number of total units available.

The idea is to plan new builds while also restoring and renovating existing homes. Developer plans would be subject to further approval by the Clifton City Council.

Also Tuesday, the council approved the purchase of three Ford F-150 pick-up trucks for the Public Works department totaling $154,000. The purchase of a 102 horsepower Bobcat skid steer with 800 hours for $35,000 was also approved.

The council also approved a resolution to award GrantWorks the professional planning and management services contract for the Texas General Land Office Community Development Block Grant for the proposed cost of $300,000 with no city match to be used on hazard mitigation following flooding in Clifton.

The council also declared Juneteenth as a city holiday.
