It’s minus 100 degrees F in the coldest place in the world. The Concordia Research Station is one of three permanent weather stations in the Antarctic. It was built in 2005 by French and Italian researchers.

The Antarctic location is one of many reasons it is so cold. The station is just over 10,000 feet above sea level at Dome C on the Antarctic Plateau.

    Observation Center

Because of the transparency of the Antaric air and the station’s location at a high altitude, it is one of the best places in the world for space observations.

The mean daily low temperature at The Concordia Research Station is below 85 degrees from May to September. The record low for each of the same months is minus 100 degrees F or lower.
