UPDATE: Suspect charged in deadly Clinton County hit-and-run crash

The 35-year-old woman accused of killing two people and injuring more than a dozen over the weekend in a Clinton County crash is now facing 11 charges.

Ashley Marie Monroe faces the following counts:

• 2 Counts of Operating Under the Influence Causing Death
• 2 Counts of Failing to Stop at a Scene When at Fault, Resulting in Death
• 6 Counts of Operating Under the Influence Causing Incapacitating Injury
• 1 Count of Failure to Stop at the Scene of a Serious Personal Injury Accident

In Monroe's arraignment Monday, bond was set at $1 million.
A 30-year-old man from Grand Haven and a 42-year-old man from Grand Ledge were killed in the crash, which happened in Watertown Township.

Six people remained hospitalized Monday morning, with one still in critical condition, while eight others have been released from the hospital.

Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputies say that Saturday evening the driver hit the family who were walking near the road.

Prosecutors said Monday that Monroe had an open bottle of Crown Royale and multiple bottles of prescription anti-depressants. Her blood alcohol level was allegedly .183, more than twice the legal limit.

We also learned that Monroe is a mother of four and pregnant with her fifth child.

Deputies say she left the scene and was stopped several miles away.

Monday, neighborhood reporter Russell Shellberg also went back to the scene of the crash in Watertown Township, where a memorial has been set up to honor the victims of the crash, and where hearts remain heavy.

"It was... nothing I could've prepared for," said Watertown Township Manager, Jennifer Tubbs.

Tubbs says that since she started 25 years ago, this kind of tragedy is a first for her and the township.

"I was just sitting down to dinner with my family when I got the first call, and realized it was going to be awful," said Tubbs.

Prosecutors say Monroe could face additional charges as the victims in this case continue to battle their injuries.
