Thursday PM Forecast: heat continues though more active pattern may cool some afternoons
The main idea over the next several days will remain the same. Days will start hot and humid and eventually give way to scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. A *HEAT ADVISORY* is in effect from 10am to 7pm Friday as feels-like temperatures up to 109 are expected across Metro Baton Rouge and points to the south and east. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, and when possible, stay in an air-conditioned rooms, avoid afternoon sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Angie man faces mandatory life sentence in violent crime spree in Washington Parish
FRANKLINTON --- District Attorney Collin Sims reports that on June 28, 2024, a Washington Parish jury deliberated for 27 minutes before returning a series of guilty verdicts against 21-year-old Andrew Pernell of Angie relating to his violent crime spree in 2021. Pernell was convicted of Second degree murder, Attempted second degree murder, Conspiracy to commit second degree murder and Assault by drive-by shooting. Assistant District Attorneys Tiffany Dover and Elizabeth Authement meticulously pieced together the compelling evidence during the trial, over which Judge Ellen Creel presided. The Bogalusa Police Department and the Louisiana State Police jointly investigated these crimes. Lt. Casey Hidalgo headed the investigation for Bogalusa PD and Investigator Stefan Montgomery spearheaded LSP’s investigative efforts.

Louisiana State Fiddle Championship to be held July 20 in Natchitoches
The Louisiana State Fiddle Championship will be held on July 20, 2024, in conjunction with the 44th annual Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival. The Fiddle Championship will be held at 1 p.m. in the Magale Recital Hall located at 175 Sam Sibley Drive on the Northwestern State University campus.
