CLINTON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Mississippi College (MC) in Clinton hosted an event to celebrate the announcement of a new multi-million dollar economic development project.

Officials said the project will eventually result in hundreds of jobs being added to the Clinton area.

“This is the unveiling, the groundbreaking of a $200 million development that will, we hope, result in hundreds of jobs and really a rebirth of of Clinton and the entire community. The name we unveil today was ‘Rising Spring,’ and it really does symbolize this community rising to meet the day. Mississippi College is almost 200-years-old, and we’re rising to meet the next 200 years of the future of this institution,” said Mississippi College President Blake Thompson.

Phase One will be built near one of Clinton’s historic springs and will feature a boutique hotel, numerous dining options from prominent Mississippi restaurateurs, mixed-use spaces, a primary care clinic, and a grassy amphitheater near a water feature.

Officials said Phase Two will draw inspiration from The Silos at Magnolia Market in Waco, Texas, and will showcase Mississippi-made offerings, additional shopping and dining opportunities, and mixed-use construction.

“We’ve been needing something like this for a long, long time. So many people have taken part in it. So many people have put so much time and effort in it, and I really believe this is going to be a transitioning project,” said Clinton Mayor Phil Fisher.

In addition to construction on the main site, MC is working with the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) on a plan to make alterations to Highway 80 between Shaw Road and Clinton Raymond Road to improve infrastructure, including a parkway-like roadway, traffic light relocation, pedestrian enhancements, lighting and landscaping.

MC officials plan to cut the first ribbon on the buildings in 2026.
