CLINTON—The Clinton baseball team fell into a quick 2-0 deficit in the first inning against Delavan-Darien on Thursday afternoon.

The Cougars didn’t stay down for long.

Clinton poured on eight runs in the second and held off the rally-minded Comets for a 9-7 win.

The big second included a one-run double from Logan Hendricks, a two-run single from Gavin Wesling, an RBI single by Collin Gill and bases-loaded walks from Tyler Moe and Nathaniel Haag.

The Cougars (1-1) added an insurance run in the sixth, where Delavan-Darien (3-1) added three runs but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Gill finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and RBI while More and Bryce Phillips added two hits. Tim Arnold started and went three innings. He allowed two runs, neither earned, on three hits. Thill allowed two earned runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts in two innings while Wesling allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits in two innings.

    • WILMOT 11, BELOIT MEMORIAL 9: The Purple Knights staged several impressive comebacks, but came up just short against the visiting Panthers at Pohlman Field on Thursday.

“We left eight men on base and that really hurt us,” Beloit head coach Steve Johnson said.

Beloit’s Mitch Stuessy came on in relief of starter Mike Nora and settled down the potent Panthers offense. He allowed three runs in his five innings of work. Stuessy was also 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and three runs scored.

Owen West also had a big day at the plate for the Knights, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Brooks Mitchell also tripled and Max Allen belted a double.

    • BELOIT TURNER 10, MONROE 4: The Trojans smacked seven hits and drew 12 walks to beat the Cheesemaker, snapping a brief two-game losing skid on Wednesday.

Turner (2-2) scored three runs in the third and fourth innings before reaching double-digits with a two-run fifth. Five pitchers combined to throw more than 140 pitches for visiting Monroe (0-5), and the teams agreed to end the game before the scheduled seven innings.

Brody Berg went 2-for-2 with two runs while Ethan Halon was 2-for-2 with a run and RBI. Jayden Piccione scored two runs and had a double while four Trojans drew at least two walks.

Halon threw the first three innings and allowed four earned runs on two hits and four walks while striking out three. Andy Buckley got the win after throwing two innings and only allowing one hit and striking out three. Zack Ries threw a clean sixth with a strikeout.

    • EAST TROY 10, BIG FOOT 1: The Trojans (2-1) used a five-run third and racked up 12 hits in a strong win over the hosting Chiefs.

Big Foot (1-3) recorded six hits, including an RBI double by Connor Weeks and a two-bagger by Matthew Bauman, but committed three errors and struck out 11 times.

Owen Smith provided three innings of relief behind Weeks, who gave up eight runs (six earned) on 11 hits with six strikeouts, and allowed two unearned runs and a hit with four strikeouts.

    • HARVEST CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 16, SOUTH BELOIT 0: The Royal Lions scored four runs in both the first and second before exploding for eight in the third in a four-inning victory over the visiting SoBos on Thursday.

South Beloit (0-6) got a double from Richard Carlson and a single from Jonah Martinez but that was all of the offense it could muster. It committed three errors.

Reece Binder took the loss after allowing 16 runs, but just eight earned, on seven hits and walks. He struck out three.

    • DEERFIELD 15, PARKVIEW 0: The Vikings were just limited to two hits and committed four errors as the hosting Demons ran away with the big five-inning, Trailways-South Conference win on Thursday.

Gehrig Grenawalt smacked a double and Oliver Friedrich added a single for Parkview (0-5, 0-4) in the setback. Friedrich started on the mound and allowed four hits, seven runs (two earned) with three walks and a strikeout.

Adam Suess and Aiden Brown each had three hits in the 14-hit onslaught from Deerfield (2-1, 2-0), which scored four runs in the first, third and fourth.

    • NORTH BOONE 5, STILLMAN VALLEY 4: The Vikings scored the go-ahead run in the sixth off a sloppy play from the Cardinals and JJ Ford capped off a dominating stretch of pitching to slam the door on the Big Northern Conference win.

Margarito Espain singled with two outs and the tie scored at four in the bottom of the sixth. He moved to second when Gage Vermett was hit by a pitch and came around to score when Eli Lopez's ground ball to second resulted in an error.

North Boone (12-4, 3-1 BNC) then got a strikeout, ground out and fly out from Ford to cap off the win. Ford threw six innings and allowed three hits and one earned run with five strikeouts.

Stillman Valley (9-7, 1-3) pounced on starter Ben Neri for three runs in the first before the Vikings answered with three of their own.

The visiting Cardinals went up by one in the second but Grady Condon tied it back up at four in the fifth with an RBI fielder's choice.

North Boone finished with six hits from six different batters with Chris Doetch's double their only extra-base hit of the night. They committed just one error to Stillman Valley's four.
