Crawford County Memorial Hospital Contributed Over $60 Million To State’s Economy
A study conducted by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA) found that Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison has contributed over $60 million to Iowa’s economy in 2023. Iowa hospitals throughout the state invested $21.3 billion, and Crawford County Memorial Hospital made up $63.7 million. Over $30 million stayed in the local community as wages and benefits from employment, $34.4 million to be more precise. The hospital supported 559.2 job opportunities, which makes up 8.5% of all individuals employed throughout Crawford County, are at the hospital. Crawford County Memorial Hospital is also a huge supporter of Denison and surrounding communities, with $2.6 million allocated for charity care to provide necessary health services to individuals who cannot afford it, serving 4.4 thousand individuals through this program. Dallas Center – Grimes girls softball will be looking to make the state tournament after a one year absence tonight in Class 4A Region 3 Championship action when they welcome another team out of Dallas County to town in the Perry Bluejays. Dallas Center – Grimes is 31-8 on the season while Perry is 10-18.
ADM Softball Gears Up for Regional Championship Tonight
The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball team is focusing on winning one final game against Winterset to advance to the state tournament in Fort Dodge. The Tigers will be in Adel tonight battle versus the Huskies in the Class 4A Region 4 Championship game. ADM and Winterset are super familiar with each other as they both represent the Raccoon River Conference and although the Tigers took both games this season, it was by one run in each game. ADM beat Winterset 2-1 in eight innings on June 5th and then captured a 6-5 victory in Adel on June 26th when Sophomore Lauren Hagedorn won the game on a walkoff in the seventh inning.
Chargers Head Softball Coach on Season
With the 2024 season over, AC/GC Chargers Head Softball Coach Eric Van Meter looks back on the team’s season. Van Meter mentions that he’s proud of what the Chargers did this last season, as there was only one team he thought they didn’t play well against. The team ended the season with a 13-13 record on an 11-0 loss to the Van Meter Bulldogs. Van Meter tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the senior class for this year was a strong group that holds a special place in his heart, since his daughter is included among the five.
First Ever State Record Fish in Iowa
(Lewis) Starting January 1, there will be a new list of state record fish to attempt to get in addition to the original list. On Saturday morning, DNR Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen’s DNR Report on KSOM, the state conservation commission, established a set of records of large Iowa fish caught by anglers in June 1962, thus beginning the official list of State Record Fish. Interestingly, the first record submitted was from a seven-pound, four-ounce, 22.5-inch largemouth bass caught at Cold Springs Park southwest of Lewis.
