Carson Daly ‘Selfishly’ Doesn’t Want Hoda Kotb to Exit ‘Today’: ‘I Won’t Be Able to See Her Every Day’

Carson Daly is pretty bummed and “sad” that Hoda Kotb is leaving Today early next year.

“Because selfishly, when she does eventually go, I won’t be able to see her every day,” he told People on Wednesday, October 9. “That’s the first thing, when you love somebody … it is such a family. It can’t be faked.”

Of course, part of the unique job is that the cohosts have to wake up ridiculously early to make it to work on time. Carson, 51, said that he rises at an “ungodly hour” each day, but he doesn’t mind considering he likes the people he works with.

“When you actually love the people you work with, it makes it that much more enjoyable. So that was my first thought,” the Voice host told the outlet. “Then my second thought was just being so happy for her that she’s made a decision that’s better for her and her family and her life moving forward. So yeah, she’s the best.”

Luckily, the Today crew gets to spend a few more months cohosting with Hoda, as she is set to mark her final episode of the show early next year. And even when she leaves Today, Hoda will still remain a part of the NBC family.

“We’re celebrating her and glad she’s still in the building,” Carson said.

Hoda first announced her departure from the program on September 26, stating that she wanted to spend more time with her two daughters, Haley and Hope. For now, she’s been soaking up her last few months with her colleagues, who got emotional when she broke the news to them.

It’s been a busy few months for Carson, who attended the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on September 11 with his son, Jackson, and the 2024 Emmys with his wife, Siri Daly, on September 15. For Carson, it was very special attended the awards show with his son.

“It was his first award show, it was great. It was really full circle for me,” he said on Today after the event. “He got to see everybody. And MTV, it’s like being backstage at an old school Las Vegas show. There’s lots of scantily clad young ladies walking around. I had to pick his jaw off the ground a few times.”

“I saw a bunch of old friends, it was great,” the TRL alum added.

Fans loved hearing about Carson’s outing with his eldest child. He is also a dad to daughters Etta, London and Goldie with Siri. The dad of four has been so happy to see his son growing into a young man.

“My teenager is 15. He’s starting to drive, so that’s been kind of crazy,” Carson previously told People. “I have a pickup truck, so he drives my truck. It’s going great. He’s a really good driver.”

“We’re just [doing] little stuff right now,” he continued. “He’s got some time. Because in New York you don’t get your license [until] you’re 17, which is crazy to me. But 17.”
