Independence Day in Silver City promises a day full of patriotic events for the community Thursday, including the 40th annual Ice Cream Social at the Silver City Museum. “It actually started in 1977, originally to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Silver City Museum, and it was held every other year,” said Brittany Beers, community engagement manager for the museum.
Ruidoso ravaged by flash flooding
Just weeks after two historic wildfires consumed parts of the village of Ruidoso along with the Mescalero Reservation, combined with immediate flooding in critical burn scar areas, more flash flooding struck the area this past weekend. The National Guard was activated in the area to help evacuate residents out of the area, with many houses and other properties receiving heavy damage due to flooding. In videos captured by locals, dumpsters, vehicles, and anything you can think of was being washed away in the flooding.

Santa Fe County announces utility water service rate increase
