CLOVER, S.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A Town of Clover employee has been charged with attempted murder after authorities said he shot at officers during an hours-long standoff.

The incident began just after midnight along Stanton Street in Clover. Police responded to the area for a possible domestic situation.

Detectives said several attempts were made to make contact with Jefferis via phone as shots could be heard from inside. Several more Clover officers arrived at the home, and Jefferis reportedly fired at officers, who were outside.

SWAT was called to the scene and cleared all surrounding homes. After about five hours, Jefferis was taken into custody by SWAT and turned over to Clover Police who transported him to the hospital for an evaluation. After being released from the hospital, Jefferis was arrested.

No injuries were reported during the SWAT situation. This case remains open and ongoing.
