Citizens National Bank promotes Cheeseman
BLUFFTON — Citizens National Bank announced Bowling Green graduate Katie Cheeseman as its new senior vice president of human resources Monday. Cheeseman is the current director of human resources for the bank. She has worked for CNB since February 2022, and she earned a bachelor’s degree in gerontology from BGSU.
Maumee citizens attempt to put sewer issue before the voters
A Maumee resident has notified city officials of her intention to place a referendum on the November ballot to repeal Maumee’s sewer inspection and remediation ordinance. A veteran Lucas County Commissioner, meanwhile, called on the city’s leaders to hold off on enforcing the controversial ordinance so other solutions to Maumee’s sewage management can be explored. And during a Maumee City Council meeting Monday evening, Mayor Jim MacDonald proposed creating a sewer grants fund to assist affected homeowners financially. The notice of a citizens’ initiative seeking to overturn the ordinance was filed with Maumee city officials at 1:21 p.m. Monday. Its text reads: “Ordinance No. 020-2024, as adopted on June 17, 2024, is hereby repealed in its entirety, including the adoption of codified ordinance sections 1390.01 through 1390.99.”

Our Daily Bread is in need of picnic tables to use during building renovations
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen is getting ready for a makeover but needs some assistance to continue its mission. After nearly a year of fundraising, the organization is ready to complete the new facade project. The project includes new metal siding, a new porch, and a sign. It's expected to take three weeks, and during that time they won't be able to use the dining room. They are getting a tent provided by Mercy Health-St. Rita's to put in the empty lot next door. But they are looking for picnic tables that they can use for that time.

Lima Public Library sparks creativity in future innovators with electronics camp
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A STEM camp at the Lima Public Library is inspiring young minds through a lot of activities. Students ages 10 through 16 are participating in a 4-day summer electronics camp this week to create electromagnetics, burglar alarms, and blinking lights. The lessons taught give students the chance to tackle eighth-grade science concepts and dive deeper into their passion for science. With tools in hand, these future innovators make friends and discoveries through interactive, hands-on learning.
Lima Police Department investigating body found in wooded area downtown
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Police Department is investigating a body found Monday afternoon. Around 12:30 p.m., police received a report of a body found in a wooded area on the corner of Jackson and Market Street, beside the train tracks. The body had been there for a significant amount of time and appeared to be male. There were no signs of a struggle or clues as to the cause of death where it was found. The deceased individual was sent to the Lucas County Coroner to determine their identity and cause of death, but a report may not be complete for several weeks.

True, lifelong friendship on display at Kroger
Local resident Maggi Dandar couldn’t help but notice a true testament to friendship and caring on a recent shopping trip at the Oregon Kroger. “I happened to notice two lovely senior women doing their shopping together. It was like watching a well-oiled machine as Lois Eddy, 71, would hold the coupons and tell Betty Kasubski, 86, how many items to get. Betty would get it off the shelves and Lois would place it in the cart. Lois was also proficient at knowing which aisle had what in it and how to find it.

Car show aims to fill a cruiser with school supplies
An annual car show sponsored by the Mercy Health Protective Services Department will be held Saturday at Mercy Health Perrysburg Hospital.The festivities run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 12623 Eckel Junction Rd. There is no entry fee, but attendees are asked to bring school supplies to donate to local schools. The show’s goal is to completely fill a police cruiser with school items. All types of vehicles will be on display, including sports cars, muscle cars, and classic cars. The cars will be lined up in the hospital’s surgery center parking lot outside Entrance C. Coffee and food trucks and a bounce house will also be on site.Competition categories for the cars include chief’s choice, best muscle car, best classic car, and people’s choice.

Card shower announced for Eugene Baker’s 103rd birthday
LAURA — The family of Eugene (Gene) E. Baker, who turns 103 on Aug. 8, invites everyone to participate in a card shower to celebrate his birthday. Baker was born on Aug. 8, 1921. He is the son of the late David and Kate Jane (Cordier) Baker. He lived his most of his life in the Laura area. He also spent time serving his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.
