CLOVIS, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Clovis Botanical Garden will be officially unveiling its new visitors center with a ceremony at the end of the month.

The garden describes the event as a groundbreaking ceremony; the visitor center building, designed by Art Dyson, is currently in the planning stage. The ceremony will be on Wednesday, July 31 at 9 a.m. at the Clovis Botanical Garden located at 945 Clovis Avenue in Clovis.

Organizers of the groundbreaking event on July 31 say refreshments will be served and that carpooling is encouraged as parking is limited. Those who want to attend the groundbreaking ceremony are being asked to RSVP to admin@clovisbotanicalgarden.org .

According to the garden’s website , the idea for the garden grew from a concept presented to the Clovis City Council in 1993. A site was located on city parkland in 1998 and the location was approved by the City Council in July 2001.

The garden is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Admission is free for children and adults.
