    3 arrested, 6 cited at Clovis DUI checkpoint, police say

    FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – One driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, six drivers were cited for driver’s license violations, and two others were arrested on suspicion of other offenses at a Clovis DUI checkpoint on Friday night into Saturday morning, according to the Clovis Police Department.

    Police say the DUI checkpoint was held northbound on Clovis at Palo Alto avenues between 8:30 p.m. on Friday and 1:00 a.m. on Saturday.

    According to police 283 vehicles were contacted, and 576 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Asditionally, one uncooperative driver was arrested for delaying or resisting, and 1 passenger was arrested for having a firearm.

    DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, officials say.

    Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
