New Restaurant Moves Into Historic Sokol Gymnasium in Downtown Cedar Rapids
A new Downtown Cedar Rapids restaurant gave customers a sneak preview over the weekend! The District CR is preparing to open its doors in the very near future!. The District CR is located at 415 3rd Street SE in Downtown Cedar Rapids, the former home of Backpocket Brewing Pilot Pub and Taboo Nightclub and Lounge. The building is known as the Sokol Gymnasium and has a long history in Cedar Rapids. It was originally built in 1908, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. The building had to undergo some serious repairs and renovations after being damaged during the Flood of 2008, but it's still standing strong today.
UNI softball adds Kyle Alstott to coaching staff
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI head softball coach Ryan Jacobs has announced the addition of Kyle Alsott to the coaching staff ahead of the 2025 season. Iowa City man arrested after series of alleged domestic assaults. An Iowa City man was arrested over the weekend after a series of alleged domestic assaults. According to police documents, the first incident occurred December 22nd at the Super 8 hotel on First Avenue in Coralville. 34-year-old Olufemi Dehinbo of Shady Glen Court and his intimate partner had been living in the room together for over a month when the assault occurred. He had fled the scene before police arrived, and the victim reportedly had a hard time catching her breath because she had been screaming for hours. She had a bleeding bite mark on her finger, allegedly caused by Dehinbo.

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – Two police officers were shot while responding to a report of a man with a gun Sunday just before 8:30 a.m. Officers responded to the 200 block of Manson Street. Officials say the investigation ended with two officers being shot in the 1200 block of East 4th Street, and the suspect dead. The Waterloo police officers who were shot were taken to a local hospital. Officials say they are in stable condition and undergoing into surgery. The Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
