Ribbon Cutting for Asheville Butterfly Trail
Asheville/Mills River – Human-sized butterflies have been installed at the Asheville Visitor Center and Reems Creek Nursery. Butterfly stations will be established throughout Buncombe County in 2024 and 2025. The inspiring trail will feature 15 stunning local butterflies and the plants they require as caterpillars. The official ribbon-cutting celebration, hosted by Bee City USA – Asheville and the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, will take place on August 29th at noon outside the Asheville Visitor Center.

Swift Water Rescue Team adds dive team
A dive team, which is an extension of the Cocke County Swift Water Rescue (SWR) Team, has been created, according to the Cocke County Emergency Management Agency (CCEMA). Each diver was required to complete the SWR technician course from Rescue 3 International and each has served on the SWR team. New moveable pickleball nets being tested at Weaver Park
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Asheville is stepping up its pickleball game. There are now two wheel-based pickleball nets at Weaver Park. The nets are part of a pilot program to test the impacts of a new system on court surfaces. The pilot program will run through September. If the nets function well for play and have no negative impacts on court surfaces, the Asheville Parks and Recreation athletics team plans to replace older wheel-based nets with lighter versions.
