    One dead, one injured in Wayne County home invasion

    A 47-year-old Seneca County man was killed and another man was injured during a home invasion Sunday night in Clyde, Wayne County.

    According to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, the fatal encounter occurred at a West Genesee Street home just before 11 p.m. Sunday, after Jeffrey C. Smith of Waterloo allegedly broke into the home while wielding a metal pipe and the got into a physical fight with the homeowner, a 67-year-old man.

    Both men were injured during the altercation and were taken to Newark-Wayne Community Hospital for treatment, deputies said.

    Smith died from this injuries at the hospital. The homeowner, whose name was not released, suffered injuries to his head, was treated and released, according to the sheriff's office.

    Deputies continue to investigate the fatal encounter.
