ABILENE, Texas ( BCH Sports ) – Last year, Senior quarterback Blake Carr was given the keys to the Clyde offense, finishing with 56 touchdowns and nearly 4,500 yards from scrimmage.

But Carr isn’t around this year, and the Bulldogs have yet to name a starting quarterback.

Despite no current decision, new Head Coach Johnathan Haddock has his eyes on two quarterbacks at the moment…

    Tucker Jones and Devan Wright.

Haddock says, “I think both of them throw the ball really well, both of them have really good leadership qualities and so, we gotta wait and see, put some defenses out in front of those two guys and see where that goes from there.”

The obvious answer for the Bulldogs would be seniority, meaning Senior QB Tucker Jones would be named the starter.

However, Sophomore Devan Wright has given the team plenty of reason to consider him the man for the job.

Wright says, “I’m pretty confident in myself and we have a lot of returning linemen and defensive players so I’m pretty confident in our team overall.”

Isaiah Mares, OT/DE, says, “Oh they’re both working hard and we’re really proud of both of them, yea they’re both really promising right now and it’s looking good either way. I think either way we’re gonna be good off.”

Two quarterbacks both backed by their teammates, but a lack of depth at a key skill position could decide this battle.

Kendrick Johnson, WR/Safety, says, “I’d like Devan to probably start because we need another outside receiver and he’s already got that spot, but either one will be great; they’re both good quarterbacks.”

“The one thing about those two guys is they are great friends. They help each other out and they encourage each other a lot so it’s very much two guys who are competing for one spot. That may look a lot different week in and week out. It could be a two man rotation. I don’t know what that’s gonna look like now we’re going to wait until we put pads on and till we put defenses out in front of us and we’ll make a decision as we go from there.”
