Vladimir Putin will never surrender in Ukraine, the US would be better off supporting a ceasefire in Ukraine until he dies.This is the opinion expressed by former CIA analyst Peter Schroeder in an article for Foreign Affairs magazine.Schroeder suggested that the US should minimize the war in Ukraine and sign a ceasefire with Russia.The author is convinced that, contrary to popular stereotypes, Putin's policy towards Ukraine is not simply a "test of the West's weakness." The Kremlin believes that it has a "strategic need to prevent Ukraine from becoming a bastion that the West can use to threaten Russia."Therefore, Putin "has taken personal responsibility for achieving this result and probably believes that it is worth almost any cost. Trying to force him to surrender is a fruitless exercise that simply wastes lives and resources."
