Toledo man one of many parolees under supervision that go missing each year in Ohio
A Toledo man who was released on parole in January after spending 46 years in prison for aggravated murder has since gone missing twice, adding to the tally of more than 2,000 Ohio parolees whose whereabouts are unknown. Bret Vinocur, founder of Block Parole, an Ohio-based website that tracks violent criminals and their parole dates as well as information on missing children, said Michael Morris’ two bouts of going missing while under the supervision of the Adult Parole Authority are representative of a much larger pattern and problem in Ohio. “They are absolutely not watching them,” he said. “There’s like 2,500 guys missing.” According to Facebook posts from the Toledo Police Department, Morris first went missing April 29 and was subsequently located the next day. The post detailed concerns for his safety, noting Morris suffers from Alzheimer’s and walks with a limp.
Big Lots Shutting Down Stores Amid Financial Uncertainty
Big Lots is planning to shutter around 40 stores as the company opens up about their ability to continue. I've been shopping at Big Lots for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I could spend hours in the toy aisle, and even as a teenager, I spent quite a bit of time thumbing through the DVD and Blu-ray selections. My wife and I still shop at Big Lots on a regular basis today. It's safe to say that it's one of my all-time favorite stores. Need groceries? Done. Kitchenware? Easy. How about some furniture? They've got all kinds of options out on the floor.

A year after expansion, criticism, praise for Ohio's EdChoice vouchers
Critics say Ohio’s expanded school voucher program is draining funds from public schools, while proponents argue that parents should be able to decide who educates their children. Ohio’s EdChoice Scholarship program was enacted in 2005 to help students from low-income families and those in underperforming districts afford tuition at private schools. It was expanded in 2023, raising the income levels and dropping the requirement that a school district be underperforming. In a class-action lawsuit filed in January, 2022, a handful of public school students, 200-plus districts, and the Ohio Coalition for Equity & Adequacy of School Funding argued the EdChoice program violates the state constitution’s mandate for a single public system of education. The Vouchers Hurt Ohio lawsuit claims taxpayer-funded private school vouchers are draining hundreds of millions of dollars from Ohio’s constitutionally required public education system — though they started out as a way to help lower-income families escape failing schools.
