Art Project Chosen for Santa Rosa Fire Station 5
Santa Rosa has chosen its public art project for Fire Station 5. Artist Po Shu Wang and his proposed 8-foot stainless steel sculpture symbolizing a phoenix rising was approved by the Arts in Public Places committee on May 6th. The piece is called ‘Intersecting Infinity.’ As part of his description, Wang says “the new Fire Station 5 embodies both the metaphorical and literal meanings of the phoenix that rises from the ashes.” The original Fire Station 5 on Newgate Court was destroyed during the 2017 Tubbs Fire. The new station, under construction in the Fountaingrove neighborhood, will feature this sculpture, symbolizing the community’s resilience and renewal.
Santa Rosa’s Summerfield Cinemas Will be Turned into a Gym
Despite pushback from the community, a popular movie theater in east Santa Rosa will be transformed into Planet Fitness gym. That’s after the city’s zoning administrator approved a permit for the project on Thursday. It spells the end of Summerfield Cinemas, known for showing independent films. The Pleasant Hill Police Department announced 11 arrests during a theft suppression operation at the Crossroads Shopping center in Pleasant Hill. On Thursday, July 18th, the Pleasant Hill Police Department conducted a theft suppression operation at the Crossroads Shopping Center. Meth and Drug Paraphernalia Found in Rohnert Park Traffic Stop
A meth pipe and suspected meth were found during a traffic stop in Rohnert Park. Yesterday, an officer pulled over a vehicle for an obstructed license plate and a broken brake light, as well as a turn signal violation. The driver had a suspended license, and the passenger was on Sonoma County probation and subject to search. During the search of the vehicle, the officer found a meth pipe, various drug paraphernalia, and 26 grams of suspected meth. Ultimately, it was the driver, Wesley Auten, who was cited to appear for driving on a suspended license, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

CCAS partnering with Bissell Pet Foundation to provide free adoptions of all animals during the month of July as shelter reaches capacity. Martinez, CA – In partnership with the Bissell Pet Foundation, all animals at Contra Costa Animal Services (CCAS) will be free to adopt during the month of July in an effort to clear kennel space with the county shelter reaching capacity.
