The Cobb County Water System reported an estimated 300 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on July 22.

The overflow, resulting from grease, occurred at 229 Wynona Drive in Marietta and discharged into a tributary to Nickajack Creek.

The Water System was notified of the overflow on July 22 at 8:10 a.m. and the overflow was stopped on July 22 at 9 a.m.

Water System employees upon arrival observed a manhole spilling with the lid secured. The escaping sewage left a 30-foot by 20-foot gray area entering the tributary. After using a jet machine to unstop the sewer line, the crew spread potpourri and lime on the affected area. During their time onsite, the crew did not observe any fish kills.

For more information, call the Cobb County Water System’s Maintenance Division at 770-419-6351.
